Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Research Scientist – Computational Genomics
The Center for Bioinformatics & Computational Biology at the University of Delaware (http://bioinformatics.udel.edu) is seeking a talented motivated Bioinformatics postdoctoral research scientist with experience in computational genomics data analysis and genome annotation to join our team.
Comprised of faculty from over 10 departments across five Colleges and built on the Bioinformatics core at the Delaware Biotechnology Institute (DBI) and the bioinformatics infrastructure of the Protein Information Resource (PIR, http://ProteinInformationresource.org), the newly formed Center is establishing graduate degree programs and will foster research collaborations in Systems Biology, Energy and Environmental Studies, and Translational Medicine.
The successful candidate will utilize computational genomics approaches to generate biological insights from next-generation sequencing data, genome-wide association data and other omics data; will couple informatics and literature-based approaches to provide functional annotation of genomes; and will assist in the coordination and teaching of genome sequencing and annotation training workshops to be hosted at the Center. As part of the Center initiatives, the successful candidate will have opportunities to become research faculty and participate in research and educational activities.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or related discipline; strong background in molecular and genome biology; experience in genomic analysis such as transcript clustering, genome assembly, SNP calling, CNV analysis, and functional prediction of coding and non-coding genes; and familiarity with major bioinformatics databases and tools, computer programming, and statistics packages such as Bioconductor or R. The candidate should have a proven track record of flexibility and successful teamwork, excellent analytical skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
